Zeljko was born in Belgrade, although his family comes from Valjevo, where he spent
the best days of his childhood, graduated from elementary school and Valjevska.
In his early years he began playing harmonica; first at family gatherings and public appearances,
and later he performed in competitions for young talents. Zeljko's first international success came at the age of 12,
when he won the title of "First Accordion of Europe" at the prestigious music festival in Paris. Zeljko enrolled in Belgrade Faculty of Music in 1993, and has minor success as a composer.
In 1997 he graduated from school and started his professional career .
In 1998 he won the festival Pjesma Mediterana with the song "Pesma Sirena" and this award gave him
the opportunity to go some prestige festivales in Belarus.
In 1999, he made a deal with the City Records music label owned by a private Serbian television station RTV Pink.
His first style of singing was folk and pop. In 1999 he released his first studio album called Amajlija where
the song "Pesma Sirena" was included together with 7 other songs. In the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest he represented Serbia & Montenegro with the song Lane Moje,
and finished second behind Ukrainian singer Ruslana.The author of the text was his then-girlfriend Leontina,
who with the help of Verica Rakocevic developed distinctive styling for performance at Eurovision Song Contest.
For the song Lane Moje he was awarded "The Macel Bezencon Press award" (Best Composer Award).
The song achieved remarkable commercial success in the former Yugoslavia. He then composed and released the single "Ledja o Ledja" which was very popular in the countries where Željko usually performs.
Later in 2004,, Željko founded MINACORD PRODUCTION. Since then, he works and composes in his own studio.
The year was a milestone in the career of Zeljko, as he: composed a song for Serbia and Montenegro's national pre-selection,
performed a ballad with Austrian singer Tamee Harrison, composed music for the movie Ivkova Slava, and released his fourth studio album.
In 2006, he composed the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 song Lejla for Bosnia and Herzegovina, performed by Hari Mata Hari. In March, 2008 it was announced by the 2008 Eurovision organisers RTS that Zeljko, together with Jovana Jankovic would
fill the role of host for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade. Zeljko also composed the song Oro, which was performed in the
contest by Jelena Tomasevic. |
