Paola & Chiara are two sisters born in Milan, Italy. Before joining the pop band 883/Max
Pezzali in 1995-1997 they had their own group "Elefunky". One of the sisters appeared on
the Videos of the Italian singer Laura Pausini. Later the manager of the band 883 saw the
sisters play in one of the clubs in Milan signed them to the band and later their solo
career started in 1997 when 883 and Paola & Chiara parted.
At the end of the 1997, the sisters won the New-Artist category for the song
Amici Come Prima at the Sanremo Festival. After which they soon released their first album.
Chiara Iezzi was born on February 27, 1973, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Paola Iezzi was
born on March 30, 1974, with dark hair and a dark complexion.
The two sisters were very close while growing up and treated each other like twins.
They would wear each other's clothes and had the same taste in fashion, music and many
other things. Chiara went to an artistic school and Paola went to a classic school.
The sisters formed their first music group called The Elefunky which specialized in
funk music. They played in various clubs in Milan and were noticed by Claudio Cecchetto
who was feverishly looking for a group that would help known artist Max Pezzali.
The sisters left the club scene and joined up with Max Pezzali and played at many
Festival Bars in Italy. They became a part of a group called 883, and the sisters
played the guitar and trombone. The group released the album "La donna, il sogno
ed il grande incubo". After a big tour to promote the album, the sisters decided
to become solo artists.
The sisters visited Ireland after seeing the movie, "Braveheart", because they wanted
to visit the locations where the movie was shot. The trip was an inspiration to both
and gave them a feeling of real freedom. The sisters returned to Ireland again and
were inspired to write many song.
They decided to participate in the Sanremo New-talent search in 1996. The song In
Viaggio (In Transit) led the sisters to win the contest in which they gained new
fans and admiration.
In 1997 after they had won the New-Artist contest in Sanremo Festival they released
their first Album called, Ci Chiamano Bambine (They Call Us Children) which was a
mixture of Rock music and Pop. They went on to release 5 singles from the album;
"Amici Come Prima (1997)", "Ci Chiamano Bambine (1998)" , "Bella (1998)",
"Ti Vada O No (1998)" (which was used on the Italian version of the Walt Disney
animated film Hercules) and "Per Te (1998)", a promo single for the re-release
of the album later that year.
After a successful tour in Italy and achieving multi-platinum sales,
they released the second album titled Giornata Storica (Historic Journey) in 1998.
The album had an Irish flavor after the Irish trend ongoing in the same year in Italy.
Notwithstanding this, most of the Italian public didn't seem to connect with
the album and sales were disappointing.
After a long break the huge summer hit song Vamos a Bailar (Let's Go Dancing)
(in a Latin Pop style and featuring Spanish lyrics) was released in April of 2000.
The song remained at the number one spot on the charts for an amazing 14 weeks.
The track was also included in the multi-million selling Dance-Pop Album Television.
It was seen as a change in style, being a mixture of Spanish Pop tunes and Dance beats.
Also in the Summer of 2000 Paola & Chiara won an Award for the Best Song of Summer
"Vamos a Bailar" from Festivalbar. The Album is also available in English and Spanish.
In June 2001 the Television album got a face-lift and was re-released with remixed
tracks and multimedia in celebration of the huge success the two sisters were achieving.
May 2002 saw the release of the fourth album "Festival" and its first single, also
titled Festival, (in a Dance-Brazilian style) reached number one in the charts.
The album showed a slight change in direction, being more melodic and vocally
more elaborated and textured even if again based on dance music.
In 2004 the album "Blu" followed the same direction as the previous two albums,
but with a slight change of style towards the 80's Electropop. Despite high expectations,
the single "Blu" did not make it as a big summer hit of 2004 and further singles were
stalled.
2005 saw the end of the first chapter in the Sisters' careers with the release of
"Greatest Hits". The hit collection features two new songs that were released as
singles in the same year and a DVD (also available separately) that contains all
their promo videos and some "making of" the aforementioned clips. An appetizer from
the collection was the Sanremo Festival tune "A Modo Mio". Later in the summer of
2005 the new track from the collection, "Fatalità", was released and followed by
a tour that ended in September.
In June 2007 Paola & Chiara released the first song from their album "Win The Game".
It was released prior to the album's debut. The song "Second Life" peaked in the
Italian chart at #4. It can be considered a "single", in that there is only one song.
However, it contains a total of eleven remixes of the song. This could, therefore,
be viewed as an album, considering the number of tracks that it contains.
The succes of the album on the Italian markets was, unfortunately, poor.
The album entered at number 40, dissapearing from the top the next week.
It is the lead single for the album "Win The Game" across international markets,
released across the world by late November. The album will include '80's Dance
songs and many English tunes. The second single, released in October 2007, is the
song "Cambiare Pagina" (Turn The Page). An English version of the song,
"I'll Be Over You" will be released in international markets in 2008.
